The BioLite team, in partnership with UC Berkeley’s School of Environmental Health, has won Vodafone Foundation’s top innovation prize for a project which will tap BioLite’s thermoelectric power system to wirelessly monitor stove usage.
The 100 Million Stoves team (which includes the University of California Berkeley School of Public Health, BioLite Stove, Berkeley Air Monitoring Group, Electronically Monitoring Ecosystems and the Department of Environmental Health Engineering at Sri Ramachandra University in Chennai) was awarded first place in the Vodafone Americas Foundation Wireless Innovation Competition to develop a wireless Stove Use Monitoring System (SUMS) and other wireless household monitoring devices. The Vodafone Americas Foundation noted that, "this groundbreaking wireless technology will help assess the impact of household energy programs, enable feedback from users, and provide transparent verification of carbon credits."
